5k a day.....WOW.....Saddle Up!

You will have no problem with the Toy doing driveways. You'll notice it plowing roadways tho. It's too light of a truck. Our smallest plow vehicle is an F350/450 Superduty and I go thru trannys like they're candy.

Ya, I think I'll be sticking to driveways...maybe a small shoppiong center if I get lucky. I hope the money is as good as I've heard..we'll see. Good work with Curt Shchilling by the way. I may be from Virginia, but I'm a big Red Sox fan (lots of family in western Mass). Next year is the year.

I am sorry......EVEN as a Yankee fan......I do sympathize.......Tears are still flowing up here.

I'm an implant from CT.....I don't follow baseball that much. Mom's side is from Hudson, NY and Dad's is from Maine. My Grandfather tho would roll over in his grave if I ever rooted for the Sox.

Western MA is a great area. Beautiful country and not as many liberals.

Raoul, I can't tell if your comment about Pedro is PRO or CON Red Sox! Do you love Pedro b/c he'll bean you, or hate em? Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, and Wakefield make a once pitiful bullpen into a very intimidating one. That is, if Wakefield picks up where he left off (minus the homerun hit in game 7) and Schilling stays as good as he has been. Yankees should have won the series this year...it could be a while now.

I'm an old guy. There ain't no way I'm going to say I hate Pedro because he would slam me to the ground!

My problem is with Mr Tude in the four spot and now he will really be Mr Tude since they tried to unload him.

Get rid of him and they still have the lineup to go all the way to the 18th or 19th inning of game seven!

I plowed snow a long time ago in Iowa, it was the worst way to make a living. I put so many clutches in I was doing them in my sleep. its super tough on the truck and the operator. If you don't have close to a "six pack" forget it, and I don't mean sitting on the floor. Doing plowing in neighborhoods is the worst, they won't call you till they've shoveled snow on the driveway, driven on it and gotten snow on top of that. The call will be 2 O'clock in the morning to boot. The best customers are local owned businesses. Watch out for the Restuarant chains, they will try and wait till the end of Winter to pay and won't, even with a signed contract. You'll be fighting their Lawyer all summer, and they'll have some different sucker next year.

I have a few comments / suggestions for you. I have a '81 Toyota with a 6 ½' plow on it, they truck has 173,000 miles, and I plow with it every snow storm, not an once of troubles in the 7 yrs I have had the plow on it. My only complain, I can't get enough weight in the back for traction. The old Toy is a heavy duty work truck,(as heavy as a Toy can be anyway) sprung really heavy in the rear.
I would not put a plow on my F-250 LD just beacuse of the punishment a plow truck takes every time the plow is on the ground pushing the white stuff.
I don't plow hard, but the old Toy has had some repairs due to the plowing, no matter how careful you are,you always hit that big rock, flower planter, small rock wall, mailbox post, etc,etc...
I'd suggest plowing with the Toy beacuse I have first hand experience with plowing with a Toy, and quite frankly it works well. Last snow storm up here dumped 22", the old Toy handled it well.
A buddy of mine has a 99 f-150 and last winter he put a Boss 7 ½' plow on it, he only plows his and his mom's drive way, it has already gone through upper and lower ball joints, shocks, and he has had some tranny probs...
I would try the Toy, if the plowing becomes really successful, then upgrade to a 250 or 350. Good luck!

Going with the Toy

I decided to put the plow on the Toy, and I got a light-duty snowbear plow instead of the commercial brands (Western, Fisher, etc). Thanks for everyone's advice. I just hope I can make a little money with this before I ram into a curb!

im real sorry to rub it in to all you new ford owners but the new f150s absolutely suck for plowin they are now luxury trucks i mean come on the 04s dont even come reg cab anymore i love my 96 last good year of the 150s as far as im conserned i plow 20 driveways with it and aside from airbags and taller coils ive had no front end problems what so ever my pivot bushings are shot but have been that way since before i put the plow on the truck and i managed to blow up my left front hub this summer doin some nasty four wheelin and as far as transmissions go the c6 wont die unfortunately i dont have one i have the 4r70w aode
which doin too much engine mods is really hurtin the tranny it already stripped 3 gears off of the rear ring gear

I live North of Boston and have plowed for quite some time. I own a 97 F-250LD with a Fisher 7.5 plow and work for a Landscaper as a mechanic on all our equipment and we own numerous pieces of plow equipment.

Just throwing my 2cents in here:

Plowing with an auto is always the beter route to go. Clutch changes wll be frequent with plowing. I know you said ur doing light plowing and doing driveways and parking lots is worse cause its always back and forth unlike road plowing where you put it in gear and just drive non stop. Sucks to lose a clutch in the middle of a storm.

Its a fact as stated above that a plow will take quite a bit of life out of a front end like lower ball joints especially if they are factory. But its wear and tear that comes with it.

Your Ford would use either a 7.5 plow or a 7ft. smaller plow if you went with a Fisher setup for example. Your Toyota would take a 6ft. or 6.5 plow.

As far as hitting snowbanks and popping out airbags people have to learn that a snowbank is not your brakes. Plowing is not meant to be done at high speeds. Know where curbs are and manholes that stick up. Plow slow, be alert, don't try to move an amount of snow where you have to gun it to get it to move. No need for it. Take a bit at a time

There are cheaper plow setups available but my own personal opinion is that Fisher is a popular brand, makes a great plow and most important that because its so popular especially here, almost any auto parts stores or truck accessory places have parts in stock if something breaks. Especally in the winter if you need a plow part quick 95% of the time you'll find it in a hurry and be back out plowing. I like to always consider when i buy something that if I need a part how easy and quick will it be to get it.
Also consider Western and Meyer plows. They are popular for parts and they are actually a bit lighter than a Fisher but its still a bit of weight on the front of your truck.

Trucks are bought new that plow their whole life. Will a plow kill either of your trucks??? Absolutely not but parts will wear out quicker. Just saying plow slow and normally and you'll be fine.

Hope this helps a bit for you

Dave
