Front ones I did at 30K and they were ready for it. Back ones still going (remember:this was a disk front/drum rear ABS system in 1997). 60 or more percent of braking is done in the front so that should give you some idea of the ratio if you have disks on all four.

Unhappy

I only have 16000 on mine and I'm going to Ford this week to buy new ones for my 99. I had a 97 they lasted until 27000, and were still going. guess they changed to cheaper pads.

Cool

Another thing to consider when looking for a time period to change pads is type of driving. A person that drives in an area with many curves or hills will most likely need to change pads earlier (mileage wise) than someone who drives mainly flat straight type roads. Also towing will make a difference in pad life.

Just replaced the pads and turned the rotors on mine at 30k. The pads had some life left in them, but the rotors needed turning. I was getting a vibration while braking, especially at highway speed. The rotors are good for one turning and then should be replaced. I think I will look for aftermarket rotors when the time comes, 30k seems a bit short for the factory discs to warp.

I've put about 51,000 mi. on my truck and haven't even thought to check them. Aren't they supposed to make a squeky noise or something when they're ready to be replaced?

I have been keeping an eye on my pads on my '97. I have 48,000 on mine but I just started noticing some vibration. It seems that the inner pads wear faster. I have a manual tranny. That probably gets me some extra millage due to downshifting. I am going to have the brakes done now. I hope I didn't wait too long.

You should notice the brakes gettin a little less helpful in stopping. But I would check them every 10,000 miles, or when you hear any unusual noises.
