sharp rocks & tires

yesterday I put a sharp rock through two more tires, fourth flat this year due to rocks. I drive 25 miles a day over bad dirt roads. Tire shops say i can't do any better than the good year at/s tires I have because they are 17".
Anyone know of a better way to go?

You wouldn't happen to be my neighbor, would you? lol. If i were you i would get some 16in rims, and go from there. Get a good offroad tire. There are many tires to choose from. I live down 18 miles of a rough mountain road, and right now i am runnin Big Foot XT tires. about 8 months old and still havent had a flat or even a leak. BFGoodrich AT tires seem to work pretty good as well.

Do you have the stock passenger type P265/70R17?

You could switch to a Light Truck type LT265/70R17 (or larger) tire. This would be a bit tougher and have 6 or 8 plys for a tougher sidewall tire. The BFG AT would be a good choice, it's a 8 ply load D tire and is available in your size.

The Big Foot XT tires comes in a 265/70-17 it is a great tire and would do well on rocky roads. The BFGoodrich AT in a 285/70-17 is a good 8 ply Load Range D tire the would work also.

(Big Foot XT)

BFGoodrich AT in a 285/70-17's is the way to go. The tires were designed for Baja offroad use and also have a bead protection built into them from what I understand. Buy road hazard with your tires !!!!

The only thing thats good about the Big Foot XTs is they are much lower costing then the BFGoodrichs and they already come with a road hazard warranty.
