Can I fit 36" swampers?
I have a 99 F-150, 4x4. I have cranked the bars about a inch, plus I have a 3" body lift. I have removed the plastic under the stock bumber so My winch mount looks better. I can only find 16x8's with the stock backspacing (just the cheep steel ones because these are just my off road tiresand rims) so I was also wondering if a 35.9" tall 12.7 " section width Super swamper tsl will hit the top f my a-arms? I am not afraid to do little triming to make this work with the body. Plus will my front end be capable of holding up to 36 " swampers? ie, steering, half shafts, diff, tie rods?
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
Come on, Nobody knows if 36's will break stuff or not?
How about you guys with 35's with a three inch body lift, could a inch bigger tire fit? Another question, Does anybody actually use their truck off-road? Im seeing alot of street only 4x4's here. Whats the fun in that?
Sure it looks cool but why? There is not a single thing on my truck that is not for function. Im not trying to be a jack ***, IM just wondering if anybody else uses their truck for a truck. Now, sure 39" Mickey's LOOK cool, but unless you have put a SFA in these trucks, the first time you put it in 4-low and hit a mild trail get ready to pick up the peices of the alluminum 8.8 ifs front diff. Kinda puzzled as to weather people see my truck as a street queen or a truck used to get me there and back?

Quite frankly...unless you want to spend huge bucks...forget about such big tires. Why do you need so big? That size tire will require (I mean unless you cruise parking lots and nothing else) steering upgrades, better brakes, more lift, lower gears, more shocks, bigger axles.........etc. I imagine you could probably squeeze those tires on to your truck, but really without big mods, it isn't going to last, and you'll probably Rub under the least amount of flex. The plans for my truck include 35"tires and just to get me ready for them I'm planning on spending about $6500 Cdn. That extra inch of tire will probably cost an extra $1000. I don't mean to sound down, but a body lift and 36's is like putting a kicka$$ spoiler on a chevette. Do it right Cheers
I agree. But Im not afraid to do a little Triming to make em fit, and these particular tires and wheels only weigh 5-10 lbs more each then 35's. Same width, also. Plus I am doing gears, because even with the 33's I am sluggish on the road. PLus with the detroit locker I need more gears to roast the little chevette's with the spoilers. So has anybody had any problems with ~36" tires with the steering? I should also mention, I will always run my 285/75/16 on road, these 36" tires will be for off-road ONLY. I think it would be smarter to wear out my bfg at's then the new swampers, and also I dont think swampers are that great on snow.
Thanks
Thanks
What, why bigger tires? Thats like asking a hot girl why she wants a man with a big %$*&
......... To get the job done (Im talking about off-road, bigger tire the more mud I can get through)

I understand the desire for bigger tires....just remember you can buy a fourwheeler for what its going to cost you. Ever fixed a CV joint in the bush.... Sure we can fix a U-joint, but if you needed 4x4 to get there, how do you get home? My friend Brad put 36's on his chev (I know its a chev) with very few mods like you are describing, and goes through parts like a PEP boys owner. Trust me.....do some reading on rigs that actually off-road. Your stock sh*t will break. It sounds like you want to hammer through the mud.......without proper planning you'll hammer through the parts. Think upgrading 1 part at a time, until you can rely on it not to break. OR by all means.......step on it now!!!!!! I won't be there to hear the cursing......and lets be honest sometimes breaking this sh*t is half the fun.
OK, "Research trucks that actually off-road." That pisses me off. I have been off roading for a long time. I have lived on a farm all my life, And yes I have fixed a cv shaft off road. It was on a chevy to. We hear in Alberta carry spair parts so when we break we interchange these parts and continue. I have had two other off-road trucks (88 blazer full size on 38.5 swampers, lockers, winch, dana 60/14 bolt.... and a 79 bronco on 35 boggers, rear welded, winch, 3 link rear coil over, designed and built by me) So I think I know a little about it already. I have wheeled this truck (99)mildley on 33" mt's with a rear detroit, warn front and rear winch, water proofed evrything....). I do drive fairly easy off road. (never have I hammered a truck since the chevy because I believe it was the only one that could take it). I have done many trail repars from u-joints to replacing broken spring mounts and re welding them. I have SEEN F-150's handle 35's so im going to brave 36's. If stuff breaks, I will fix it and make it work. Yes breaking stuff is half the fun but making it work, and making it stronger is the other half.
P.s. I have (last night) mounted a freinds set of 36/12.50/16.5 swamper sx's on my truck, I then ramped it on my ramp untill the front bumpstops were touching, and NO tire clearence problems. Turning is also no problems. Rear has plenty of room.

Looks like you answered your own question ignerance. Good luck with the tires.....I'm sure they'll look great. Sorry if I ticked you off..... a lot of people don't understand breakage. BTW my friend Brad had 35"swampers on a chev They were the WORST on snow, and not very good in rain either. BUT ......those tires were absolutely kicka$$ in mud/dirt.
Wow, that's the first I heard of 36s on a truck with only a 3" body without rubbing. Especially supper swampers. That's good though, it is good to see people actually experimenting with their trucks and not going by what others say. When I mounted my 35" Procomp MTs on my stock wheels, everyone shunned me down and said no way. Well 20,000 miles later and everything is great. They fit good, look good, handle good, and the best part was I didn't have to fork out a ton of cash for a set of aftermarket wheels.
Good job! What kind of wheels do you have them mounted on?
