Ceramic Blend Pads
Ceramic Blend Pads
Yesterday I changed my front pads at 33,400 mi. Drivers side probally had another couple of thousand miles left but the pass side was worn thin and starting to crumble at the edge.
Anyhow I went to Carquest Auto Parts Store and bought their brand (poss made by Bendex) with a Ceramic blend instead of semi metalic. Supposed to run cooler last up to 50% longer and produce less brake dust. Came with all new springs and clips for 91 beans. Kind of steep but I will see if they last longer and keep my rims cleaner.
Installed them myself, rotors were fine, all in all about 45min with clean up
Has anyone had any experience with these pads?

I have used these pads for a while on our 318 BMW. The old metallic pads were ruining the new wheels with black brake dust. The Carquest pads (made by Raybestos) have as good or better feel than the OEM pads and do not make a mess. There is dust, but is a fine white dust that you can hardly see and does not seem to be affecting the wheel finish.
I had the rotors turned to avoid problems.
I just put a set (Carquest/Raybestos) on the F150 a week or so ago and they perform as well or better than the OEM pads on it too.
As you say, they are expensive but do come complete with new anti-rattle clips and anti-squeal pads. Well worth it IMHO, certainly worth trying if you have expensive wheels.

I put raysbestos ceramic pads on my Expy about two months ago,I rarely get a chance to wash it, I've been suprised by having hardly any brake dust on my front wheels.Makes me wonder how long the Powerstop rotors are going to last, somethings got to wear.I would definitly use them again,no dust ,no sqeaul no fade either.
Thanks for the responses, I think I'll use them again on my wifes Maxima, she going to need front brakes soon too.
I, my self have never experienced brake fade with my personal vehicles although I have had with work vehicles.....not too fun trying to stop with overheated brakes.
I'm a little more gental with my own vehicles although I tow a boat at about 6500 to 7000 lbs fully loaded.
Thanks again

Just FYI, The new JC Whitney catalog has these ceramic brake pads for about $54 for our trucks. Just came out in the performance truck catalog. The reason there is no dust on the wheels is that the dust produced by these pads does not stick to the wheel (according to the catalog).

Side note..
Since your truck is 6 years old, do you have any rust on the lower door skin seam? I had a 97' Mountaineer that started rusting there after it was a year old and my SCrew is doing the same.

Vesjas,
No rust. The only place I can see rust on my truck is on the heat shield above the exhaust. There is also a little on the inside of the rear bumper. I always wax the lower door and keep the drain holes open. It may be because my truck is garage kept. I don't know. I've been very lucky with this truck. Especially considering it was in one of the first production runs in 96.
