Question Help, shudder when braking...

I have a 2000 F-150 4X4 with a 5.4L. I just recently replaced my brake pads (both front and rear). In addition, I replaced the front rotors and turned the rear rotors. I was experiencing a bad shake when braking before I did all the work and my pads were worn out. I was thinking my front rotors were warped and this is what was causing the shake. I used Raybestos ceramic pads.

Well, it has been about a month since I did the work and now the shudder and shake is back. It only happens when I brake. Do any of you have any suggestions as to what it might be or how I can fix it? It really annoys the crap out of me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jamey.

I have the same problem. More specifically, I noticed the shudder more after I installed Racho 5000's, when braking from ~50 to ~40. However, I did notice it to a lesser degree, with the OEM gas shocks.
Under hard braking, and towing, there is no shudder. The front brakes are neutral (no pull).

I'll pull the drums this weekend, to see if there is a problem there.

Anyone have any input?

Tony

Buckdropper,
Thanks!

I'll give that a try this weekend, as well as just rotating them.

I have had the same problems over and over with the warping rotors. I think i have finally found some rotors that don't warp. They are from praisedynobrake.com I have had them on fo a while now and they are still going smooth as glass with no vibrations. Part of the problem can be solved by putting a pad with more friction on the rear so the fronts don't work as hard. Go to praisedynobrake.com and call and talk to John. he does nascar stuff and cryotreats rotors, bearings and has pads hardware the whole deal....

I have only had warped free driving for about 3k miles of my trucks 50k life

I believe 90% of the problems are with improper lug nut torqing.

I try and do all my own tire removal and installations myself because 98% of shop works have no clue how to properly install lug nuts on vehicles with "Doughnut" style rotors.

I even warped my rotors once following the owners manual and re-torqued my lug nuts after 500 miles.

My brand new rotors and Fords best pads are so badly warped right now its so hard to stop from high speed. I'm just going to have them turned and when they wear out I will buy something aftermarket since all prior replacements were under warranty.

good luck

Angry Shudder in rear, when braking

I to have a shudder in the rear brakes. I have replaced both rotors, drums and all pads and shoes. A neighbor mechanic said it could be the A.B.S. regulator has gone bad, how do I confirm this ? When I looked up the part online its about 5 hundred bucks, WTF !!. Any input is greatly appreciated.

If the ABS regulator was bad your ABS light would be on. So I doubt that is it. Are you sure it is from the rear?

There has also been some problems with the driveshafts causing a shudder in the rear as well.

Even though you replaced everything, there is still the possability that something got warped when the rims were put back on or a caliper/slave cylinder is sticking. Did you do the job your self? If not take it back and get them to fix it!

good luck-
