Question 8" vs 10" rim width?

I have a 2002 F150 and am not sure if I should get a 16x8 wheel to go with 315/75 Xterrains or a 16x10 wheel (4.5 bs)? The truck will have the Fabtech Ultimate 7 and 4.56 gears (V6 engine & 5speed). I'd like the wider look but not at the risk of rubbing on full turns. Any thoughts?

Go take a look at mine. I have a stock 4X4 with 305/70's on 10" wheels with no rubbing anywhere. I like the wider look alot better myself also and your 315's are even a tad wider than my 305's so I would definately go with the 10's.

Your truck looks great! Did you have to do any trimming for it not to rub. Also, would a 16 x 8 be better suited for a 285 75 16 and would the stance look much wider than the stock 265 70 16 tires.

Galaxy, Does your Screw have a lift kit or is that stock with just a taller tire? You say nothing of a lift any place in you signature.

Thanks for the reply, my truck went in last night for a lift (Fabtech 7) and 16x8 American Racing wheels with 315 Xterrains. Aggressive Suspension in Anaheim (Calif) is doing the work. I'll post a picture as soon as I get it back.

Nope, mine is all stock, bar cranking the torsion bars up as far as they will go. I also had to trim a small corner off the front bumper/valance thing. It got in the way during turns, not bumps. The trim job is soo small you wouldn't even know it was done unless you were looking for it. Definately worth the trade.

Lynn, here's the two tires you are comparing...
Stock 265/70 17= 31.8 dia. and section width of 10.7 on 8" wheel.
285/75 16= 32.9 dia. and section width of 11.3 on 8" wheel.
(my tires=33.1 dia. and 12.2 width on 9" wheel) So yes, that tire will have a VERY nice stance compared to stock, even on a 8" wheel. The factory is 17X7 1/2.

The 285/75 tire is about a middle of the road tire in as far as it will work good on an 8" or 10" wheel. Either one will work, it just depends on what kind of look you are going for. If you put a 285/75 on a 8" wheel, you would not have to trim anything. That tire on a 10", I don't know but most likely.

Mhawk, are you sure you are going to be happy with that tire on a 8" wheel??? Just checking because that 315 is wider than my 305 and there's no way I would put my tire on a 8" wheel. Guess it just depends on the look you're going for.

Everything was installed last week and I finally got a chance to get some pictures up.

I am happy with the rim size. The installer said the 10's would rub and I really didn't want that. The above gallery also has a couple pictures from the front of the spindles and rest of the lift parts if anyone is interested. It is Fabtech's latest Ultimate 7 setup. I still have the 3.08's in the rear, 4.56 will go in shortly. Thanks for your info Galaxy.

The Fabtech catalog shows the dual shock setup can be added as an option without going to the "longtravel" kit.
