Brake Suggestions for a towing vehicle

Hello all,

I'm at about 45K on my 01 Screw and it's time for brakes. I plan on doing a fair amount of towing with the truck now, so I'd like to get your suggestions on brake pads and rotors that are a little more heavy duty to aid in stopping while towing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Go to the dealer and ask to look at a set of pads. Note the two letters painted on the edge (will be something like EE EF GG GH, etc).

Then go to your auto parts store and look at two or three of their 'top' brands -- and look for letters at least has high (in the alphabet) as those for stock.

The letters are rough measurements for friction, with the higher being more aggressive -- which is what you're asking for.

I have found that "long life" pads at the Brake-o-Mart tend to be one or two letters 'harder' (lower) than stock -- which then shifts the braking load to the other axle -- and gives the new brakes an unfair wear advantage.

When you get into changing materials, that's another story -- a long one.

If you can contact the brake lining manufacturer, you might get a meaningful recommendation.

Otherwise, stick with stock (NEW) brakes, and you'll not have any surprises.

I personally have found that Titanium Brakepads give me way better stopping power, no brake dust and no problems. Meaning no dis-respect to the OEM pads, but I think they lack in a lot of things. They don't last long, they tend to wear the rotors pretty good (and unevenly) they make dust like crazy and they tend to fade. With you towing that would agravate all these conditions.

Some swear by Ceramic. I have no experience with them.

Titanuim are rated for severe duty use and I notices a good bit of braking improvement immediately. Not having brakedust to contend with is an even better surprise.

Good luck.
