I am thinking about installing a set of 295/45/18 F1's on my 4x2 supercrew. The tires are about an 1-1/2 smaller then the stock ones, that will make my mph read 5% faster then stock. Someone told me that I have to take the truck to Ford to have the speedometer recalabrated, has anyone done this and what did they charge you.

 

I just live with it!!! I put the older L wheels on mine and 285/60/18's which are a little larger than stock, so mine reads slow. I just always remember that I am going 3-5 MPH faster than my speedo reads. Plus, I think I have read before that Ford won't touch it if it is not a factory setup. I may be wrong.

 

If you've got a performace chip like Superchips you can have it programmed to compensate for the new wheels.

Keep in mind, when you put smaller wheels on it, not only is your speedo reporting faster than actual MPH, your odometer is adding more miles on than you're actually traveling as well. Maybe it's not much but's it's more.

 

I just put a set of '02 L wheels on my Expy. I found a tire at Discount Tire thats perfect for us. Nitto 404 in size 285/50-18. Its only 1/2" smaller than stock and has the same section width as the F1's. Plus they are only $130 a piece. Thats alot better than $200+ for the F1's. The Nitto's ride great and have a nice aggressive directional tread pattern. I'd check these out if I were you.
