Replacing 7-bolt wheels...

Okay, on my 1999 F-250 LD, I have those bizarre, light-heavy duty 7-bolt wheels that Ford shipped out with the truck.

What I'd like to know is this: What are my options for replacing these wheels with something a little nicer?

I'm assuming a 7x150 (I believe that's correct) bolt pattern is essentially non-existant in real life.

Does anybody know of a manufacturer who will build a custom wheel (or ship undrilled wheels and drill out the bolt pattern on-site) for this truck?

Thanks,

Pat

I've always asked myself, what idiot at Ford thought up that bright idea. Anyway, American Racing has 2 or 3 styles of the 7-luggers. Go to www.americanracing.com
Weld Racing can custom make them but they're expensive. I have the AR Atlas in a 17x8 but believe they're discountinued. Lastly, check out Ebay. Sometimes they pop up every once in a while.

Weld makes some 7-lug wheels. I put a set of outbacks on my friends '98 LD.

Are the axle shafts interchangeable with some more 'normal' bolt-patterned version? Could be an easy fix if you were able to merely change axle shafts.

Nope, it sounds easy but the rear drums are partial to the 250 LD and are not available in 5 lug. I'm not sure about the front rotors, but the 250's have bigger brakes so that may be an issue also, you're stuck with trying to find 7 lug wheels, as I said, Weld makes a few styles, they're not easy to come by but they're out there.
