Broken brake lines
Broken brake lines
Questin about broken brake lines. Had a rock hit the lines and cut through one and crushed the other going to the rear brakes. ( I have antilock brakes) Lost the fluid in th reservoir and my brakes. Instead of replacing the full length of the lines is it possible to just replace the damaged section by tapping in to the good part of the line. Also will it need a special bleeding procedure due to the antilocks and loss of fluid.
DO NOT TAP into anything. Keep it the same. you are talking about yoyr stopping power here. Go to your nearest napa or pep boys and get some metal line. You can bend it very easily and just re-install it. Don't try to rig it. Also no special way to bleed anti-lock brakes. Just the normal way.
If the lines where relatively new you could cut back to good metal, flare the ends and put in a small piece. Most likely though you would crack the lines trying to flare them so you really need to replace the entire line. Generally there is no special procedure for abs, just start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder. However because of the way the abs is plumbed the furthest wheel might not nessesarily be the right rear. I recommend checking a repair manual for the procedure, the ford dealer or any good parts store might be able to look it up for you.
