BFG Mud T/A KM vs BFG A/T???
BFG Mud T/A KM vs BFG A/T???
I have an F150 with the 17" wheels and want an aggresive tire and have been looking at the BFGoodrich All terrains (Pro Comps don't look mean enough). I found a price of $177 for the All Terrains (265/70/17) and $183 for the 285/70/17 Mud Terrain KM. The 285/70/17 size is more appealing to me, I want a little bit taller and wider tire.
Is it worth the extra $5 for the M/T for a taller wider tire???
Or should I stick with the stock size (assuming the a/t will last longer, ride quieter, and handle better in the snow)??
Thanks, Matt

I have the BFG M/T's on my Jeep and BFG A/T's (265-70-17) on my F150. The M/T's (and the old Jeep) are absolutely awesome in the muck, but a little noisy on pavement. My Ford handles very nicely with the A/T's in all conditions. In fact, we just had a dump of wet snow that really messed things up on the highway with slushy, slippery conditions and I just moseyed on home past all the stuck cars and fender benders. I was very pleased with the secure footing the A/T's gave me.
Overall, I must say that if I was to choose between the two, I'd opt for the A/T's since they ride much quieter than the M/T's, but look and act like a true All-Terrain tire. Pic of my A/T's in this thread...

Thanks too all...
I think I have made my mind up to get the BFG A/T's because they will be quieter on the highway, look aggresive, and I can get them in the stock size.
Mashie Banks,
...nice picture, do you have any from further away?? Just wondering becase those tires don't look very tall, at least not as tall as the 265/70/17's on my truck. I am hoping that the BFG's will be a little bit wider, can you help me out with an answer??

Check back in a day or two. I'll fire up the ol' scanner ( gotta get a digital camera). The tires actually should be exactly the same size as any other 265-70-17's. They are 31" in diameter. They do have a nice, square looking "shoulder" where the sidewall meets the tread. I really am happy with them...
mhussey,
For what it's worth I've been running the BFG AT KO's 265/70/17 on my truck for 21,000 mile's & love them. I wish they made them in a 285/70/17 because I too would like to step up to a bigger tire & still stay with BFG & an all terrain, but for now oh well !!
Every time I got a new truck since 1985(about every 2-3 year's)
within 1-2 day's I have the tire's swapped out for BFG AT's.
I think the tire's look & perform the best for my uses.
Just my opinion though!

I've had both BFG M/T's and A/T's. They are both great tires, but I prefer the A/T's because of the quieter, smoother ride. They still look agressive enough and handle the snow and rain great. Although I like the more agressive look of the M/T's, I honestly don't get in the mud enough to justify the extra noise and faster wear of M/T's (and at $200 a tire, I want them to last as long as possible!)
If an aggresive look is what you are looking for why dont you go with Thornbirds or Swamper radials ? They may be a little louder but look 500% better than most tires. And if you need to use them they are there for the offroad. Just my two cents.

The thornbirds and swampers are alot louder than either of the BFG's, especially the A/T. To me those tires have "off-road use only" written all over them. If you don't mind more noise the M/T would look great. Out of those two I would personally go with the A/T though. Take a look at the Bridgestone Dueler M/T. I have heard nothing but good about these tires quietness compared to all other M/T tires and their great traction. If I can find a reasonable price they are going under my truck. The other day I was quoted 185 bucks apiece for 33X12.5X15. All said and done it was gonna cost $819. Thats way to much in my opinion so I'll try and get them from some other place. Ive found them on the net for 140 for that size tire.
