Tire comparison

I have searched for this information, but I was not able to find a answer to my question.

I will soon be looking for some new tires for my truck. I want to stick to the same size I have today (255/70R16) and I would like your input. (this

These are the factors that will affect my choice (in no specific order)
Price
How long tire will last (I expect to get 55-60K out of my currrent tires)
How the tire compares to my current tire for gas mileage
Good traction over the stock goodyears ( I have the 4X2 with LSD)
Looks ( I really like the look of the BFG AT KO's)

I have seen many recomendations for the BFG AT KO's and I would like to know what to expect for tread life and if they will affect my gas mileage ( I drive mostly highway and no offroad).

Please give me your input on your experiences

I went through the same thing this summer. Got rid of my GY RTS"s and purchaced Bridgestone Duler AT's. Very pleased with them so far. Traction is much improved. Not as expensive as the BFG KO's if your interested in saving a few $. The next test will be snow which I shouldn't have too wait for too much longer in the Chicago area.

I'll second the nod on the Bridgestone Dueler AT's. I put a set on in June and have logged almost 15,000 miles since. Decent price (I paid $91 a tire - out the door for 425 with all taxes and fees), slightly stiffer ride, low noise (compared to other AT tires), and great traction. Snow traction has been just fine. Some will complain they aren't as agressive looking as some other AT tires, such as the BFG's. but I think they look great. No change in mileage from other AT's, but thats down about 0.5 mpg from when it had All Season tires. I should easily get the 60k I expect out of my tires.

www.tirerack.com is a a good place to check out many tires that are availble in your size. Good luck in whatever your choice!

Unhappy BS Dulers

I too replaced my stock Firestone AT's with BS Duelers - loved them at first :o Yet now within 2 yrs I am replacing them as they have worn out !! after about 20k miles. After doing some research I found that the BS's are not really rated for a truck - they were designed more for the SUV market. Needless to say I am disappointed that I have to spend another $450.00 for another set of treads.

This time I am doing it right !! I don't believe the tire dealer anymore - after extensive research I am going for the Cooper Discoverer AT - GREAT ALL AROUND TIRE and it comes with a 50k warranty ( I hope to be out of my truck by then and into a newer one)

Take a good look at the coopers - best deal I got was $485.00 for everything including tax !!

Certainley had I known then(1st new tires) what I know now I never would have bought the BS's.
I do drive aggressive(no burnouts) so maybe that took a little life off the BS's??

Good Luck

After checking the invoice, I've logged over 21,000 miles on the duelers to date. Tread depth has gone from 12/32 (new) to 10/32 today. Well on track to reach 60k, which I expect and demand from my tires. Not sure what happened to you F250 lariat. FYI - the duelers come with a 50k limited treadwear warranty, so if they truly wore out in 20 k, see if you can get something out of Bridgestone first.

Thumbs up

There's always the Michelin LTX/MS. Granted they're a little pricey, but they are an awesome tire for the price! Great handling, rain/snow traction, and they are pretty quiet also. I have had a few sets of them over the years and have never been let down. I recently switched to 17 x7.5 factory wheels, so they are not an option. They still only make them up to 16", last I checked,,,,98

The Michelins LTX MS are 147 a tire or that is what the tire dealer I talked to today siad that isn't bad or maybe it is the fact I had Mustangs for many years and tires for them are 200 and up for one tire.

I just installed a set of Michelin LTX/MS 265/70R16 tires on my f150. They are real nice riding tires and quiet too.

Yep, once you move away from the High performance handling tire group, $147 is a little up there. Most average tires go for around $65 to $110 a piece depending on size and manufacturer. The last set of tires I put on the truck was $745!!?? I will never do that again I got gouged because I ordered them from out of state, and drove over to get them installed. I think they were trying to shock me with the price, so they could talk me into buying from their stock.,,,,98
