Unknown Sound

I recently started hearing a sound from the passenger side of my truck, it will start randomly and go away. It starts as a loud popping almost like something is catching thin metal and it then turns into quieter scraping/squealing. I am not sure where to start, as I speed up the should gets faster and louder, as I slow down or stop the sound goes away.

Thanks for the help

Sounds like the brake backing plate.

Jack it up and take a look. Rotate the wheel, see what's up.

So I lifted the rear end and pulled the tires, but it seemed like everything was fine. So I decided to turn the truck on and spin the wheels with the rear end up, I could hear a clunk from what I believe is a worn U joint. Seems to be the one located aft of the transmission, I attempted to GoPro the sound but it would not replicate once I put the camera under the truck. The grinding seems to be coming from the same area.

Any thoughts

Check the u-joints for play.

if the U-Joints have play, could this be causing a grinding sound that starts out as popping?

I checked the U-joints and they seem to be in good condition, there was a small amount of play in the splined shaft that the driveshaft slips over. Not sure is there is bearing in the aft end of the transmission that may be worn.

Have you checked the FRONT wheels? Could be brake or wheel bearing related.
