cleaning cast aluminum rims

ok long story short, shop screwed up break job or just didn't do it. they say defective pad resulted in premature wear.
ok the problem at hand, pad disintegrated and I had metal (pad) on metal (rotor) which resulted in the rim being covered in iron dust all weekend during the snow and now its covered in rust.

is there a safe way to clean it without damage ??

I find the best stuff to use is acid... I use it for my tool box especially.

Stuff I use is Aluma-brite. I get it by the gallon.

Same stuff heavy duty truck and trailer detailers use. Especially for staxx and milk carriers.
