Question Brake Front rotors

I'm having trouble taking the front rotors off my 97 Ford F-150 4X4 I've taken off the pads and the rest of the hardware and took off the big 1-3/8" center nut but still can't get the rotors off. Could they be just stuck on real good or am I missing a bolt or something.

Any help will do.

PS I'm new to the board, so hello to all you Ford people out there.

Binky

put the center nut back on. That is to hold the hubs on, not the rotors. The rotors are held on by the calipers and the wheels torqued down by the lug nuts. It is a seperate hub and rotor design.

See if there are any threaded holes in the rotor to start a bolt . If there is, get the right size bolt and crank it in there. Otherwise check for the metal tabs on the lug nuts and remove those. The rest of it just takes a BFH to get them off and lots of penetrating oil. Remember that the new F150s are hub centric, so that is where you want to spray the most!!!! the center of the rotor!

Thumbs up

Thanks Matt90GT,

Took a good look at the situation again and your right that big center nut didn't have to come off, it was a real pig to get off I had to borrow a 1" drive & socket to get the off. It just seemed when I first took a look at it that the nut was the most obvious way to go, obviously not.

Thanks again for the tips

Binky

That nut needs to be torque back down to 110-148 ft-lbs

You also need to remove the caliper bracket from the spindle to get the rotor off. Don't know if you got that far.

If you whack it with a BFH, be sure to use a 2x4 between the hammer and the rotor

Have put Large center nut back on, and took off caliper bracket. I still can't get rotors off for replacement.

There are 2 bolts in the back of the hub, do they have to be taken off also? their the only 2 bolts left

I have no idea when they were serviced last, I know the pads were down past the squeelers when I took them off.

Could they be that rusted on?

once the wheels and caliper bracket is off, nothing more to remove. Just beat it! haha
