Spare

2008 F150xl; will a 255 70r18 spare fit under the truck or should I keep the original 235 70r17?

Spare

I guess my question is what people do for a spare when they put bigger tires and wheels on their trucks? would a 255 70r18 spare hang down too low and look funny?

I'm sure it will fit. My 02 truck has stock 265/70x17 tires/wheels and the spare fits. I'm sure that size and larger came on some 2008 trucks.

My spare fell off and was lost due to the cable breaking, a common problem on my vintage. I looked on line and found the cheapest steel spare wheel was $50 shipped from a salvage yard in Texas. It had a bent lip that I straightened but the rest of it was true. A tire shop sold me a used tire for $20 cash.

Or, just find a used tire that is the same overall height as your current tires... There is an equal tall 17" tire size out there.. Probably like a 275/70/17 would be real close if you can find one..

My 13 F150 has the OEM 20" wheels, but the spare is an 18" wheel.... The overall height of the 18" wheel/tire is the same as the 20" wheel/tire.

Just because I took a new pic today, here are the 20" tires I have now. Still stock size of 275/55/20...
