Wheels and Tires for 2WD with BL and level
Wheels and Tires for 2WD with BL and level
Hi there,
I'm in need of some new wheels and tires for my truck and need some advice as to what will fit. Specifically, if Wandell is still around, I know you have a lot of good info on this stuff. I’ve been doing a lot of reading but I want some second opinions. Truck is a 2000 XLT 5.4L 2WD.
I ordered a Daystar 1.5" spacer to level the front and a PA 3 inch body lift. I'm looking to fit some 33" BFG T/A KO2's on a 16" rim. I was thinking something like a 305/70/R16 on a 16x8. Would this fit with the level and BL? Could I maybe squeeze in a 34 or 35 and still look OK?
The wheels I'm looking at are ION Alloy 171 in 16x8 with a -27mm offset, which is around 4.4" backspace. They also have them in 16x10 with a -38mm offset (4" BS), but I believe the ideal is 4.5" of backspace. If the 16x10's with 4" BS would work OK then it might be nice to do that as I believe they would kick the tires out of the wheel wells a bit more.
Here are the wheels:
16x8 -27mm offset

16x10 -38mm offset

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks,
- Erik

I'd go with the 16x10's and 33 personally. This will put you at about the same height as a 4x4 with the torsion bars adjusted. One thing to keep in mind though. If you think you will ever add lifted spindles, they will increase the front track width. This is why a lot of guys with lifted 4x2's run 8 inch wide wheels.
Hey Wandell thanks for the info.
I didn't realize the lift spindles made the track width wider. Good to know.
I was thinking about adding the spindles later, but I changed my mind after I realized that they would make the truck too tall for most parking garages in the area. Just the body lift and level puts me close to the max height for some with 33's.
So 16x10 it is. Do you think the 305/70R16 tires I mentioned before would be too wide and rub horribly?
Thanks,
- Erik
