rear brakes

I have a 1998 f150 v6 and my rear brakes don't seem to want to hold when I set the park brake! When I go forward it holds great but on an incline at the boat ramp it slips no matter how hard I push on the peddle! Any clues to why
this happens? thanks pappy3

I may have to buy a wheel chock to put behind the front wheel while I launch my boat and again when I put the boat back on the trailer!!

Manual transmission? Won't it hold if you put it in 1st gear in addition to using the brake?

You probably need to take the rear brakes apart for inspection - the drums may be glazed and/or the shoes are glazed or worn out or need adjustment. The parking brake with rear drum brakes uses the main shoes, activated by the cable. The cable itself may need adjustment and lube.

This.

And make sure that the cable is attached on both sides. on my 2004 the cable slipped off the park brake at one wheel.
