Crud from leaking axle bearing

Replacing the bearings and seals today.

When I put it all back together, I want to clean up the insides of the cast wheels. Much nastiness from diff fluid, dirt, and brake dust.

Also want to remove the fluid 'stains' from the back of the dust plate on the side that was leaking so that any future issues are obvious and can't be confused with the previous leak symptoms.

I have ideas as to various chemical solutions and elbow grease, but has anyone got an experience-based tip as to the best (and easiest) way to do either?

Thanks!

I'd probably spray it good with simple green and hose it down after it sits a while.

Maybe brake clean?

I'd be more inclined to use brake cleaner spray.
