Parking brake

I have a 2003 Ford F-150. I had the parking brake completely rebuilt but my front cable ( the one coming from the parking brake pedal) is sticky. So it won't replace unless you pull on it by hand. Well I've been told you can't buy just the cable you have to get the whole assembly with the pedal and that brake cable. It's $250 and I don't wanna spend that unless it's needed. So does anyone know if you can change the cable out ? Could like an f-250 work or anything ? Or does anyone know where you can find a front cable ? Thanks for any help ! I've tried squirting oil in it but that didn't really work but not much got in there but does any one have a way to u seize it up or is it just better to just get all new ?
