spare tire swap

for those of you that changed tire size, what did you do about your spare? did you just buy a new one to use, or did you find a place that would trade for the right size, or give some credit? i have a goodyear spare that sells for $120 aprox. and don't want to just get rid of it. any ideas on what to do?

Well, I have had good luck so far in not getting flats. So you could say I am just hoping for the best and planning on not having to use my spare. My spare is also a Goodyear 255/75/16 but now I have 265/75/16 BFG's on different rims on the truck. I guess it depends which tire got the flat as I have a LS in the rear and where I was at the time. If it was on the rear I would have to pull one off the front toput on the rear if I was going very far at all. Now if I was in a hard place I could and would put the 255 on the rear to at least get me off the road or to a safe location. I do plan on seeing if I can't trade my spare in for one 265 in some cheap brand.

Take the spare to a bone yard and trade it in for/toward a matching wheel/rim. Then buy 5 new tires, all the same diameter, and do a 5 tire rotation with the spare every 5k. Oh, and be sure you lock your spare.

I think I remember someone saying they were able to get a 285/75/16 spare in the stock hanger. I just got a used 265/75/16 for around $50 bucks installed, but it's practically new. It's a Mich. LTX I think. I feel much better knowing I have the same size spare. Not concerned with a five tire rotation, as I've never really done it before.
