New tire question

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble deciding on new tires. I want to stick to an all terrain (probably the toyo at2) or something similar. Right now I have a stock 2008 f150 2wd with the 18x7.5" wheels. If I were to go with a 2" or 2.5" AS level - what size tires could I fit on my stock rims? I'd like to stick to around a 32 to 33 inch tire but how wide (metric) of a tire can I fit on the 7.5 inch rim?

You should be able to clear 33s with that set up.

Thanks! I think I'll make the decision between 32 and 33 when I figure out tire widths. Anyone know what size width I could put on the stock 18x7.5? How about 325/60r18? Too wide ?

Yeah, a 325mm (13.00 inch) wide tire is too wide for a 7.5 inch wide wheel. I'd go with a 305mm (12.50 inch) wide tire at the most.

I would definitely get 33s because 32s would look to small. No wider than 305, but 285 would be ideal in my opinion.

do you think a 275/65r18 would rub on a stock 2wd? (since its the stock 4x4 size?)
- currently I'm running the original 30.5 inch tires. if i go with a level i think I'm either going to do a 275/70r18 or a 305/60r18. I'm leaning towards the 305 because of the width but am worried about it being too wide for the 7.5 inch wides. as well as moving from an p rated to an lt rated all terrain..any thoughts ?

Nope, I don't think they would. My 275/60/20s (33.0" vs those 32.0") fit on my 20x8.5 wheels with a +20 offset (5.5" backspacing vs stock 6.0" backspacing) with zero rubbing and zero trimming when the suspension was bone stock.

i think 285s would be the way to go- but a 285/65r18 is a 32.5 inch tire. i like the width but am tied between that and a 275/70r18 which is narrower but almost a full inch taller.

any opinions between these two anyone?

would either rub without a level on a stock 2wd?

I absolutely say to get the 275s. Unless the wheels are sticking out on aftermarket wheels (mine barely are), the width isn't very noticeable. That's my personal favorite tire size because it's the least expensive true 33" tall tire available. 10mm of width isn't worth giving up over half an inch. You can't really tell the difference between 275 and 285 without maybe a side by side comparison.

275 is also better for your wheels. My 275/60/20 BFG Rugged Terrains have a 7.5-9.5" recommended wheel width, and most others would be the same or very close. I looked it up see about putting them on 10" wide wheels.

I doubt either would rub. And even if they did by some chance, all you'd have to do is minimal valance trimming.

I think I'm am going to go with the 275/70r18.
I am considering this size in the toyo open country at2: http://www.treaddepot.com/tire/352450.html

Is this e rated 10 ply lt tire going to ride rough compared to a p rated tire?
Any thoughts on this tire choice? I may go with a smaller size (probably 275/65) if this rubs on my 2wd.....?

With a level, I'd still just get those 275/70/18s because the 65s will look small. If no level, they'll look fine. E rated will ride much rougher, but I'd get them anyway. They last longer than p rated. I think it's a good tire choice.

should i go with bfg rugged terrains or toyo at2? both are E rated tires in this particular size.

my main concern with these is if there will be a significantly (too much) rougher ride? since I'm used to the 30.5 inch p rated tires i have now.

i know the 275 width will fit on my truck but the 33 inch height scares me a bit without a level

Why don't you just do the level then?

If the cost is the same for the tires, I'd get the at2. But the Rugged Terrains are what I have and should be a lot cheaper.

33" is actually pretty small, all things considered. I wouldn't stress about it, cause the worst that can happen is a little trimming of the valance.

I think I may actually go with a 265/70r18 instead. It will allow me to go with a p rated tire but still have almost a half inch over the 275/65r18 size without going to a full 33. Anyone have experience with the 265/70 size or any preferred tire brands etc?

Personally, I'd never go with a p rated tire on a full size pickup as the sidewall's won't be very strong. If you never go off road or haul/tow heavy loads, you may be fine with them though.
