F-150 tires

I just purchased a F-150(my first one) - 2001 Extend Cab XLT 2WD. I noticed the tires, which I think are 235/75/15, do not fill up the wheel wells at all. Can someone tell me what the biggest tire I could put on there without trimming fenders or any lifting? Also, what are the rim dimensions that come with a stock 2WD 150 Extend Cab? Thanks all of you beforehand...

let me be the first to welcome you to the club!!!

the smallest tire ford used on a 2001 f150 is a 235-70-16 witch I'm guessing what you have. I beleve you can go up to a 285-75-16 without a lift---someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The first thing you want to find out is what is rear gear ratio? 3.08, 3.55, ect. The largest diameter tires that Ford puts on F150's is 265/70R17, although a 265/75R16 is the same diameter and will fit on your stock 16x7" rims. If you go larger in tire diameter, with out regearing, the truck looses alot of power, towing/hauling capacity goes way down, and the auto tranny will shift ALOT on the highway. Many guys have regretted jumping into large diameter tires. Look into it, and choose what right for the function you want out of your truck.

I'll second that

I'm at a 265/75-16. it's not bad. Mostly I did it for the look (aside from just being much better tires). However, my acceleration and overall torque did take a hit. A 275/75/16 would be ok, and I've seen 285/75/16's bfg at's on a truck before as well. The thing with the 285 is that I'm almost sure they were rubbing up front. Perhaps not but I think it looked kinda bad that close to the front fender. Ah well, have fun!

stock rims are 16x7
smallest tire is a 235/70/16

I'm not sure whether or not yours came with 255/70/16 or the small tires.

Anyways if its a 2WD, the biggest you can fit without any trimming or lifting is about 265/75/16.

i've heard of some guys mounting 285/75/16's but they had to do some minor trimming or lifting on a 2WD.

The Lariats and Sport packages come with 17x7.5 rims and have 275/60/17 tires.

Off Road package = 265/70R17 on 17x7.5" wheels....

same diameter as 265/75R16 which will fit the stock 16x7" wheel.

wrong info

helper
Actually, the off road packages do come with the 17 " wheels but, the sports come with the 16" inch wheels and 255/70 tires.People get kinda confused on this issue because if you buy a sport xlt it will have the 17 inchers but buy a sport xl and you get the 16s.I know my 4x4 sport xl has the 16 inch wheels.
