Will new tires fit help?
Will new tires fit help?
Hi, new to the forums. I have a 2" lvl kit on front of my 2012 F-150 lariat 4x4 and am looking to get some new all terrains. Will BFG all terrain ta ko 285/65/20 fit on my truck without any issues?? or will i have to go smaller? Thanks.
For starters I am familiar with the '04 to '08 F150, not the '09 up... However as I understand it, fitment should be the same.
Your BFG 285/65R20 measures 34.7" dia x 11.5" wide.
My truck is equipped with a Rancho QuickLift Loaded 2.5" level, and fitted with 35x12.5/17 Hercules Trail Digger MTs with a diameter of 34.87" and a width of 12.67".
I am also fitted with aftermarket wheels with a 4.75" backspacing, which puts the wheel further out from the spindle than stock, meaning when the wheel is turned , the outer edge of the tire travels further than it would if mounted on a stock rim.
With all of those variables, I just barely rubbed, particularly when backing and turning as the suspension would compress. The situation was alleviated by trimming some plastic, and carefully curling back the lower inside edge at the rear of the front fenders (Not visible from outside of the truck, you would have to climb under the truck and look behind the fender to notice).
Given the stock wheels, which put your outer edge swing further in, and your narrower tire, which means you also won't have as much on the outside, not to mention you won't have the issue of rubbing on the inside that you could with a 12.5" wide tire.
I would say that from everything I have read, I suspect if you have the OEM wheels, Your tire size should work without any rubbing at all. Hopefully an '09 up guy, or Wandell who seems to be the expert in tire fitment on Ford Half Ton trucks will chime in.
