Issues with offset rims?
Issues with offset rims?
Hello guys,
I have a stock 2007 F150 and I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and tires. I am installing a 2.5" leveling kit and I've essentially decided on 18x9" Eagle Alloy Series 197 rims (-11mm offset, 4.5" backspacing) with 325/60r18 Nitto terra grapplers. My question is whether or not this set up will negatively affect my gas mileage, ball joints, other steering components, etc? I've heard good and bad things about the offset rims and I don't want to modify anything that is going to cause me to go through ball joints or wheel bearings like crazy. Also, will that offset cause my truck to pick up a lot of extra dirt, or will normal mud flaps cover it?
Thanks a lot!
Jeff

Those wheels will stick out 2.5 inches farther than the stock wheels. Anytime you increase weight and leverage by installing larger, wider, heavier tires/wheels it will increase wear and tear on suspension and steering components. How much? Who knows. A lot depends on how the truck is used (or abused). Since you have a 2007, odds are you have either already replaced the ball joints or will need to shortly.
