04 FX4 in need of new rotors/pads/calipers...

Hi guys. Been awhile since I've been on here as my cash flow was pretty low over the summer. I've had some unexpected repair bills for my truck and am now in a position to fix some more things.

A couple months ago one of my front brake calipers froze up on me on the road. Luckily it didn't freeze and lock the wheel at the same time...could have been bad.

Anyway, I had the repair shop replace the caliper and the pads but left the other side alone (couldn't afford both sides) even though they were telling me that they prefer to replace calipers in pairs.

With the problems I've had with this truck since I bought it almost one year ago I think it would be in my best interest to go ahead and replace the rotors, pads, and calipers at all four corners so I would like to beef them up a bit over stock but not go with the most expensive gear out there.

I'm looking at EBC Greenstuff for the pads but am on the fence about the rotors (drilled? slotted? plain? brand???) and don't know if I should just stick with Motorcraft calipers or is there a better way to go with that?

I don't do much towing at the moment but have plans on getting a good sized camper and a pontoon in the next couple of years so that is a consideration...

Thanks in advance...

I have the EBC Greenstuff 6000s on my 2004 XLT 4x4, and I pretty much have the same questions...

One thing I noted early on is the OEM rotors like to warp, QUICKLY.

I haven't yet done it, as can be seen by my post on the same subject, but I am also on the fence about rotors. I am seriously considering getting the cryoslot rotors. Some Dodge friends of mine went to them on their 3/4 ton Cummins after going through too many OEM rotors. No warps yet. I just wonder if drilled is worth it on a street / off road / working truck...

I have Powerslot rotors (non-cryo treated) and can't say I have any complaints other than them being "noisy" when braking, which isn't really loud or too bad, but it is noticeable when braking if you have a window down. I was going to give Brembo non-slotted/drilled rotors a shot next time around because they are cheaper. I'd also like to think they'd be decent coming from a company that specializes in brakes.

I just got my PowerStop Kit in last night. (http://www.buybrakes.com/p-849-power...brake-kit.aspx)

Drilled/Slotted w/ ceramic pads. Just over $200.00 shipped.

I've heard/read good and bad about all types of rotors. Last time I replaced my front rotors and pads, it was $600+ at the shop and they still warped after only 3 yrs. Current rotors are OEM replacements (whatever Brake Specialists Plus used).

Going to install this weekend with new bearings (Calipers replaced a few weeks ago).

Well, after 4hrs, she's done. All went well considering this was my first time replacing rotors/pads/bearings myself.

Smooth braking, no noise, and especially no shuddering like the old ones. Time will tell, but I'm very satisfied with the PowerStop kit so far.

2000 mile update (everyday driving):

Brakes work just fine. Smooth stopping. Little to no dust. No squeaking. Well worth the price of admission so far.

How did these work out for you?

Never mind, saw your reply. How is the stopping power compared to stock?
