Stuck with stock wheels, can't decide on tires.
Hey guys, I just got an Autospring 2.5" level with a set of their add-a-leafs. I am hopefully gonna get the kit put on my '06 4x4 scab with stock 17's this weekend. I'm torn between Trail Grapps 295/70/17 (much better looking, little more noise and a little rougher ride) and Terra Grapps 305/70/17 (boring looking but quieter, smoother and a little beefier). According to nitto they recomend an 8" minimum width with the 305's and a 7.5" width with the 295's. I really prefer the size of the 305's but I am concerened about uneven wear because of the narrow rim. I love the looks of the Trail Grapps and I know they would fit the stock rims better in the 295 size, but slightly concerned about the ride/road noise yatta yatta. Keep in mind im used to badly cupped bfg a/t's that whine and dont bother me a bit so I'm thinking the Trail Grapps can't be that bad on noise, Need some opinions.
Maybe its just me but the stock rear springs seem too weak my truck squats way to easily and my rear is only 1"or so higher than the front now so i'm going to give the add-a-leaf a shot because I would like to maintain a little rake. What tires did you put on your truck in the 295/70/17 size.
Not sure if this helps but I've been running 305/65/18 BFG ATs for about 45K on stock 7.5" wheels without problems. I think other members have the same setup at me here. I have an add a leaf in the rear and leveling Bilstein 5100's in the front.
@ p185, ok cool thanks for the info, I didnt think it would be a problem as long as I keep pressure and rotations/balancing in check. What do you guys think about the Terra Grapps. vs. Trail Grapps question. I know terras are more practical, but so boring looking and the trails are so sweet looking, which one will be better in snow and are people getting respectable mileage out of the trails for what they are?
