Width Difference Between 325/65r18 vs 35x1250r18

Can you guys help clarify what seems to be a simple question?

I am ordering a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs to replace my existing Procomps which are 35x12.5's. The Duratracs come as 325/65's so I need to confirm the difference in width. I know I am comparing two different tires but the best comparison I can find is that the Duratracs section width is 13" compared with 12.5" for my existing tires. Is the difference in total tire width really only .5"? I know it seems like a dumb question but when I was shopping tires and told them I needed the 325/65's, two shops said,"wow, that's a wide tire!" No one has every told me that when I was shopping for the 35x12.5s and they're only a half inch different in width.

Is it really that simple...only a half inch difference in tire width?
Thanks for the help!

Basically the difference is a little over a 1/4" 325 divided by 25.4 (mm per inch) = 12.79.

Ummmm, it's not really that simple, and also keep in mind; when talking tires its not just 1/2"!! A 1/2" in wheel and tire terms can be significant and can even be the difference between fit or not fit. I went from a 305/70 16 to a 325/70 16 and the difference was huge! Huge difference in appearance. Also something to keep in mind as you've already alluded to, every tire manufacturer is different in how they apply/advertise tire dimensions. Also, the 12.8" width for the 325 is section width generally as opposed to tread width. The best thing you can do to get an idea is get the specs from each manufacturer and compare notes and try get a mental visualization of what it will look like.

I am already preparing for a slight rub. I have a AS 1.5" offset spacer to replace the Daystar 1". As far as simple, that's just it as I am not comparing apples to apples in this case. AND even if I can compare a new Duractrac to my tires, since it's not mounted and inflated, I still have guess as to how much wider it will be. I don't want to go too much wider than my current setup but 1/4" on each side is not so bad.

An, maybe I'm over thinking this...

Got any pics of the duratracs on your truck? Any rubbing issues?

I'm thinking of getting them in that same size. Did you find a good price locally around here?
