Goodyear Wrangler Quick wear
Goodyear Wrangler Quick wear
Hi, This is my first post here. Just got a 2012 FX4 in December. I have about 35k on it already. My two front tires are worn to hell and the back are pretty bad too. I know 35k is alot but should the tires last longer? Is there anyking of maufactures warranty?
Thanks
Thanks
My truck had Wranglers on it when I bought it. They seemed to have 2/3 of the tread left at that time and lasted about another 25-27k, so 35 seems reasonable. Im not sure what their mileage rating is supposed to be.
They weren't bad tires, I thought they were kinda loud. I replaced them with Big-O Bigfoot tires ( ive had good luck with big-o brand tires on other vehicles so I went for it) and have been very happy. Over 10k and they still look new, seem to ride about the same and are quieter. I would not get wranglers again.

Thanks. Can you get Big-o tires on the east coast? Im in West Virginia. Or, Does anyone have other sugestions? I do a massive ammount of Highway / Back Country Roads driving with an ocasional off road need.
Nitto comes highly recommended on this site if you do a lot of highway the terra grapplers sound like the best bet. If you want a more aggressive tire the trail grapplers are an mt but are reported to have good mileage. I had goodyears on my truck as well when it was new only lasted 20k I'll never have another set.
Did you ever rotate them?
No, OEM tires would not be a warranty item, unless they failed or wore out in like 5000 miles or something and that would probably be up to the individual dealer as a 'good faith' gesture only.
I get around 50-60k miles on my tires before I replace them. And they are probably only 60% worn at that time.. They lose so much traction by then, I just feel better by replacing them. I'm on my third set of tires in 11 years and some 171,000 miles.
That's a lot of miles in 9 months... You are gonna hit your mileage mark a lot sooner than your time mark for the warranty on the rest of the truck!
Good luck!

I agree about rotation. I'm religious about it and do it myself every 5000 miles.
I also run 5psi more air pressure on my front tires than recommended on the door tag. This wears more in the middle of the tire than the outer edges, which typically gets more wear on the front.
On the rear with the limited slip reared, I typically run 5psi less than recommended because limited slip differentials like to put more wear on the middle of the rear tires.
All these tricks are for stock size tires. When you put larger tires on these trucks, all normal methods are out the door and you are on your own. Lol
With that being said, a tire is a tire. Learn to read your tires. If it's wearing on the edges, "pump it up". If it's wearing in the middle, "lower the pressure"
And, above all, "rotation is your friend"
IMO the most important thing you can do on these trucks to drastically improve tire wear is to immediately replace your factory shocks and struts with Bilstien HDs.
It's amazing how much front struts affect front tire wear.
The Bilstiens are the best on the market. I've had them on every truck I've owned for 25 yrs.
I just recently bought this 05 and haven't got Bilstiens yet.
But, they're coming.
Good Luck, hope my tips help.
