Brake Pads

How many miles are you guys getting off of your original set of brakes? My front brakes are just now at a point where they need to be replaced and i'm at 65,000 miles... Is everyone else getting this many miles out of the original set? Also, is there a difference in the quality of brake pads to replace them with?

Got 70k miles out of front pads, wear indicator was just starting to rub maybe 2 days or so before I replaced them...rear shoes are next maybe this fall..too hot to do it now!

I got about 65,000 miles out of the original pads on the front brakes. I then got 60,000 out of the replacement set (OEM Pads). The rotors did not need to be turned at the first change, but were replaced at the second change due to salt / corrosion pitting problems. They were replaced this time with Raybestos products - can't tell you which line off hand. So far, so good...

Rear brakes still are the originals, they will need to be redone next spring. I keep an eye on them and make sure they stay adjusted.

Rear Brakes

So you're at 125k on the original set of rear brakes??? That sounds pretty good!

1990 Ranger (I know, it's not an F150, but at least it's a Ford)
with 190,000 miles on the ORIGINAL front brake pads...I swear!
I chalk it up to (a) conservative driving style (b) mostly highway miles and (c) manual transmission. Also still has the original water pump, alternator, starter, and clutch, and burns about 1 qt of oil between 4000 mile oil changes. Maybe Ford can make a pretty good truck. Crappy paint jobs in those days, though.

Actually, over 130,000 miles now. Sorry I forgot my sig!

My grandfather has an '88 chevy C1500 that he got 160,000 miles on the original set of brakes. We are talking a heck of a lot of freeway driving. Me, I'll be happy with 60,000. :)

I found this link to a brake pad thread on the Lightning board:

Don't know if Napa has any that would fit the regular F150 but it's worth a call. Less dust, improved braking, and longer life. Worth the $$ if you ask me.
