235 vs 265

Lookin at upgrading tires here shortly cause had a rock go through right front and not able to fix it. Lookin at the 265/70/17 Goodyear authority's. Only 180 at walmart, had them on old 150 and loved them. Am I gonna notice a difference in mpg and performance? Also if I don't change my Speedo and odometer essentially won't I be putting less miles on my truck?

not less miles,,, just wont get the right speed indication. If its a 4x4 f150 265 is a good thing for them,, it increases the patch that comes in contact with dirt. usually changin wheel size doesnt affect gas mileage that much to the good. bigger wheels and tires actually cause more gas consumption,,, thru more mass to turn, more energy.

Your speedometer will be slightly slow in turn causing miles to rack up slightly slower on your odometer. You may notice a slight mpg decrease but not much. The 265 is around 32 so not a huge increase. It will also fill the wheelwells better. I would say do it.

^^^On 7" or 8" wheels?
As the OP, I'd also like to get a little more "meat" under foot, but I'd think a 265 is a bit wide for the 7" factory wheels.
Maybe I'll give Tire Rack a peek and see what's recommended for that size.

265 is not the widest you can go. if its for that 2010 f150 you can put a 275, at the most a 285.

I switched to 265's at my first tire change and it gives it a better stance. I noticed the speedo is off by 3 to 4mph according to my gps. I have the 3.55 gears and I do notice a little bit of performance loss especially going up hill. This is how my truck sits now with a 2" level and 265's, also my bike when I first got it. It looks totally different now too!

i have the stock 235/70/17s and i would like to put the stock 265 size on my truck of course with different wheels since i have the stel ones. but i want the wheel well to look more full. but at the same time when i re-tune my truck to calibrate the speedometer, it will go baclk to trying to stall for 5000 miles. my truck has a hard time adjusting to the air here in CO. right now my speedo is almost dead on and my truck acts normal so i am kinda hesitant about re loading the tune. plus i JUST bought new 235s last week. I went from the stock hancook dynapros to Mastercraft Courser HRTs and just bought a little more agressive tire, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T. HUGE difference...the geolandars are a lot quieter and so far seem to be a huge difference in quality over the others.

i dont notice any mpg increase but it is quieter and not wobbly and less vibrations are noticable from the road.
