LATERAL MOVEMENT REAR 1998 f150

Hi, as the title suggests, i jacked my rear wheel up today, to check braes as had a bit of a shudder under heavy braking towing a fully loaded horse trailer, anyway, noticed that i have prob 1/4 to 1/2 inch lateral movement on ***** sides. looks like the axleis moving in and out. i gather it is a bearing problem, correct? how do i remove rear end bits to see what is going on?
cheers Brad

You need to pull off the diff cover to access the axle shaft retainers, and brakes have to come apart to pull the axles out

possibly. Its probably bearings in the differential area more than the wheel bearings on the outside
