I have a slight vibration or nibble at 55. I have the XLT chrome clad wheels with the Michelin tires. They rebalanced and did not help. I have a feeling it may be in that stupid chrome clad wheel.

Strange that you would be having problems with such new trucks and tires. Are you sure its not the roads? Ive noticed with the heat fluctuations here in phoenix lately where we have been in the high 70s to low 80s one day and then back down in the 40 and 50s at night that the roads will shift and will cause some vibrations.

However, It very well could be the tires. My brother had 24" wheels on his 06 F-150 with top of the line Hankook tires. Within less than 10,000 miles 2 of his Hankook tires had developed problems where the belts or tread was collasping from the inside. The tires looked fin from the outside and they were balanced multiple times and the problem never showed up. My brother had a terrible vibration that would hit really hard around 55-65 mph. anything slower or higher than 55-65mph and the truck drove perfect....

Didnt find out the problem until he took it down there to be balanced again and there was a vetran tire guy that had noticed a lot of Hankook customers coming in and complaining of the same issue....

The dealer thinks it may be something in the front end, but I think it is in the two piece wheels. When they were rotated last, and were not balanced again, the worst if not all the vibration moved to the rear. It could be the tires, but I'm betting it's a wheel.

When I had them balanced, they took forever and wanted to road test it but I did not have time. Had waited 3 hours. I suspect they had one they could not get balanced. It is not real bad, just bad enough to be annoying. No it's not the roads and not the weather. It is from 52 to 55 mph. Above that or brlow, is smooth as can be. I'm just thankful I seldom go that speed.

I just had the "E" rated 18's on my truck ballanced a couple of weeks ago. The tire dealer didn't want to use weights on outer part of rim (for astetic reasons I can only imagine) and only ballanced on inside lip. Shook worse than before the ballance job when I got between 58 and 64. Above and below was OK, but the 6 mph range was horiffic. Went to a different tire shop (as I was 50 miles away) and they ballanced on inside and outside, per the computer. Smooth as silk now.

The origional shop refunded my money, when I presented the 2nd shop's invoice, as I was 50 miles away when I hit highway and found the problem. They agreed I did the right thing by not driving all the way back to re-ballance.

Yes, with these wheels, the dealer balances on the inside only. Do you have the chrome clad wheel? Not sure they could get a weight on the outer lip as there are two lips. It is much more difficult to get them balanced when putting weight only on the inside. Takes a little experence and know-how, and a lot of guys don't have it.

My trans temp runs about 198 most of the time. The 6 speed runs warmer than the 4 speed.

Are there any wheel weights on the outside lip of your wheels or only on the inside?

Checked my tranny temp last night on a trip of about 125 miles. It stayed at 194 with the outside temp of 40.

How did this turn out?

Can I ask -- how did this turn out? I have a brand new 2012 FX2 -- as in drove it home and then drove it back to dealer -- with what sounds like the exact same issue -- Michelin tires, terrible vibration at 55 mph -- faster or slower and nothing -- never noticed it on test drive -- was fine on local roads and on interstate was driving at 70 -- beautiful ride.

Took my folks to dinner when I got home and at 55 for a few minutres it was awful! Took it back and they test drove it and said tire vibration -- we need to pull all for wheels and test -- yesterday they had it for 5 hours and said they are "still reindexing the wheels it will be done by lunch tomorrow -- no word yet and I am startgin to wonder if they are having a hard time fixing it...

My 10' XLT SCrew 4x4 vibrated like crazy with the OEM's (I purchased the truck with 40K) - changed to XD Bombs and Continental LX20's - never had a smoother, quieter ride in a vehicle... now if I can just convince my wife that fuel expense is a cost of doing business!!
