abs light
abs light
About 6 months ago, took a 600 mile trip towing a trailer (about 2000lbs) with another 1200lbs in the bed. As I was getting back and had just dropped off the trailer, My abs light came on. It was raining very hard with lightning strikes all around me. I pulled under a bridge and reset the battery. I went about 5 miles down the highway and the light came back on. It has been intermittent on and off for the last 6 months with it being off most of the time. Sometimes it would come on in the middle of a trip, other times it would be as soon as I turned the key on.
About 2 weeks ago, the light came on and has stayed on. It comes on as soon as I turn the key on.
I have checked the brake fluid level and all the brake pads and rotors. They all look good. I reseated all the connectors under the plugged into the master cylinder or anything else that looked brake related. I also got under the truck and pulled the speed sensors. They were covered badly with rusty metal dust. I scraped it all off and put them back in. I did not see any speed sensors on the back wheels.
I am leaning towards the front left wheel speed sensor (it had the most gunk on it), but should I be looking at anything else before just randomly replacing parts. I hooked up my OBDII, but it is not pulling any codes.
Is there any way to read the codes from the ABS and have it tell me what is wrong?
Thanks.

Not sure about the 02 MY, but the 04+ have an abs sensor on top of the rear end. Some members have had trouble with that sensor going bad. Like I said, not sure about yours. The sensor reads a toothed ring that sets behind the ring gear.
Thank you. I went out and peeked under the rear end. I see a couple wires that look like they are damaged. I have already cleaned up for the night but I will get out and check that out first in the morning..
I hope you have found the problem......
I finally went out and took a look at it. When the exhaust was installed, one of the pipes was routed directly over the diff. The ABS wire is attached to the top of the diff and it was getting smashed every time I would hit a big bump.
That also explains why it started on my trip. I had a 900lb atv plus gas, a big cooler and other camping stuff. I also had a 12' trailer behind me with another big atv, more gas, firewood, etc. Lots and lots of weight back there.
Thanks for the help with that.
