Would smaller tires bring it down a notch?

So im new to this 4x4 pickup thing. I love it believe me, but the only other 4x4 ive had was a 91' two door s10 Blazer. Nothing like an F150. I love this truck, but im a bit confused about a few things.

It has 235/75r/15xls. What does this XL mean? Does it basically just mean its a bigger tire? Do I need these huge tires since its a 4x4 or can i get away with say 225/70r/15?

It seems like she sits real high. Is that because of the tires?

This is what im going for, closer to these two trucks. Would smaller tires make it happen?

Those other trucks are both 2wd. Your 4wd will sit higher. I wouldn't go much smaller than you have now. You could probably find some used running boards if you are having trouble getting in or want your truck to appear lower.

I agree with Jerry, go too small on tires and your gear ratio's will be out of wack, turn too high of rpm through the ranges. Ideally if you can find a sticker with the oem tire sizes on it or if you still happen to have a manual for it, go with the recommended tire size.

Thanks fellas. The tires on it are the size it lists on the door tag. 3 of them are bald I guess I'll stick with the same size. What could I do to make it sit alittle lower? And Will those wheel covers both of the 2wd trucks have fit on my rims, or perhaps baby moons?

The xl stands for extra load. This is basically a passenger car tire with extra load for the truck. I think you will have trouble finding any smaller diameter tire that is capable of handling the weight of the truck. Whatever tire you pick, if a P series tire, it MUST have a minimum of 2200lbs load carrying ability at it's maximum pressure.
I agree, nerf bars/running boards would be a far better option.

You can look and see if there are stock blocks under the rear leafs and pull those out.
