Smoking left rear tire

Went fishing today, and as I got about 2 miles from the house, I started to smell burnt rubber. When I pulled into the yard, I got out and my left rear tire was smoking. I am sure it is a seized caliper. My question is, how can I make sure it is just the caliper, and not a clogged hose? I was going to take it to a buddy since I don't want to deal with a hose, and he said on my '01, I just need to replace the caliper. Is there a way I can check to make sure that is the only thing I have to replace?
