what pressure for 33" tires on 04 fx4?

Bought new tires today (cooper st maxx 275/70/18) and the tire shop set the pressure at 40psi... Truck seemed fine.. on the way home, I stopped at bear frame & wheel and they set the pressure at 72psi. I asked the guy about it and he said the tire says 80psi. I didn't want to get in a pudding match over tire pressure.. but I feel the 40 OSI was appropriate for my trucks weight, with almost no towing and even less hauling.

I've got an 05 STX with 285/70/17 Cooper STT's and like you i don't do a lot of hauling or towing. I keep mine set at 40. In the tire store that my dad owns and I work at we set it at 40 for most trucks unless they do a lot of towing or hauling or are small trucks.

72 is way too high, you will do nothing but where them out too quickly. 40 is also too low. I would run them at 50, and if you do decide to go lower, do not go lower than 45.

Thanks for the info guys... I lowered them down to 50PSI hot (right after driving home).. So far they seem way better...

72 psi is insane for daily driving on a half ton truck.

That's what I thought when I was at the alignment shop.... I just let him finish the alignment, knowing that I would bring the pressure down once I got home.

why do people think what ever the tires max PSI is, is what they should run in it! so many people come up to the shop and tell me "whats the tire say?! 80, i guess put 80 in it!"

i have 50 in mine and its probably to much,
