5x135 lug pattern: do 12mm vs 14 mm lug pattern matter

I have an '03 Supercrew 4x2 that currently has 20" aftermarket wheels. I would like to get something closer to stock, either 16" or 17" wheels.

I am seeing good prices on used 17" wheels in 5x135mm lug patterns from Expeditions in the '98-'02 range. From what I understand, those vehicles (and older F150s than mine) used 12mm lugs, whereas my truck has 14mm lugs.

Does that difference in measurement matter? Can I fit some of these older 17" stock Expedition wheels on my hubs? Or will it not work?

thanks,

JC

12mm is smaller you need the 14mm.

Thanks Lightning: Anyone know where I can find the sizes of the stud holes on all of these wheels? This thread (an old one) seemed to indicate that the 12mm and 14mm lug wheels still had the same sized stud holes...

Very confusing!

Thats only the difference in lug nut size. Wheel doesn't matter. 5x135 are all the same and work on both size lugs.

Galaxy is right. You just have to use the lugnuts that fit the studs on YOUR truck.

Years back I actually mounted my extra 1999 Expedition saw blade wheels (12mm) on my 2000 Harley Davidson F150 4x2 which had 14mm studs. (Now I have 2003 FX4 wheels on my Expedition using 12mm lug nuts from a Ford Lightning F150). Good luck with your purchase.

The factory wheels are hub centric so you dont have to worry about the lugs.
