17" Wheels

Ive got a couple of questions. I just got a steal of a deal on a set of BFG A/T 285/70/17s. I currently have 18" stock rims on my 05 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 with a 1.5" leveling kit. If I go with after market 17 x 8 wheels, what backspacing would I be looking for if I would like about a half inch or so of tire sticking out of my wheel wells? Also, my truck is the two tone black and tan. Do ya'll think all black wheels would look good, or do you think something with some polished metal on it also would look better? Any pictures of this combo would be appreciated! Thanks for any input.

John

I don't know about sticking out of the wheelwells, but the OEM 18x7.5 inch wheels have 5.5 inches of backspacing so you can use that as a guide. For instance, an 8 inch wide wheel with the same 5.5 inches of BS will stick out 1/2 inch farther than the stock wheels. For the look you are describing, you probably want something like a 18x9 with 5 inchs of BS which will stick out 2 inches farther than the stock wheels.

You can go to my profile and look at mine. I have 17 inch wheels and 33x12.50 tires, which are slightly wider and a touch shorter that the 285's. My truck is black also so that may help. Also, if I remember right 4 5/8 backspacing, they stick out just a little.
