All Terrain vs. Mud Terrain Tires

I'm looking for new tires for my 06' F150! I'm looking for a tire that is in between a mud tire and a all terrain tire! Road noise doesn't bother me at all! I have the actually two sets of wheel for my truck the stock 17" and 18" wheels! I had 285/60/18 and liked the look of it! Any suggestions?

I've had both bfgoodrich at and mt, my mt's lasted me 40,000km so far and still have abunch of tread...the at would be ideal for a daily driver...but then in the mud they are just a slick

Nitto trail grapplers would be one.

I had the Nitto Terra Grabber (?) and they didn't last all that long! I dont know if I just had bad luck with them or not! I really like the Remington Mud Brutes but I cant find a dealer that sells them locally! I read online that the Explorer Cromp's was made by Cooper tires! Is Cooper Rubber make good tires? Is there much different between 17" and 18" wheels? I'm just really lost with all of this!

I havn't seen anyone with enough miles on either of these tires to make a determination yet.

Those tires are horrible. Just like most products with the ProCrap name.

1 inch as a matter of fact.

I am about to buy my second set of BFGoodrich Mud Terrain KM2s. My current set has 48,000 miles on it with tread to spare. Couple that with the fact that I didn't keep them rotated and the truck aligned like I should have and I would easily bet that these tires would have lasted me 55,000 miles or more.

I will probably take some flak for this next comment, but Nittos seem to be the cheap alternative to everything else. The TG is a cheap Toyo or BFG AT. The MG was an all around disaster and the TG has yet to be seen, but shops seem to be pushing them when you call to ask about the BFGs. I guess we will see.

I've got the ultra aggressive Hercules Trail Digger MTs on mine. You can't beat the look, not to mention they grab like crazy in the mud. Well worth it!

The BFG ATs that were on before the MTs worked extremely well, but I hit a situation during Hurricane Ike where I was in the sticks with ATs and 50K miles on them. They did NOT do well in the mud in that situation...

13,000+ miles on mine and love them. Just measured the other day and they are down from 19/32 to 14/32. That's pretty darn good wear. I've had mine in torrential downpour, dry powder snow, wet snow, icy slick roads, some farm field mud, towing my er um 8,000 lb toy hauler, and driving cross country. Hands down, the best all-around, capable tire I've ever owned. Oh, not to mention they just look bad-***!

OP it really depends on how much off roading you plan to do. Usually an all terrain tire is fine for mild off roading.

Mine were quieter than my KM1s from day one. Wet traction is good, and the little bit that I drove them in snow/ice they did fine too.

MTR/Kevlar. Completely, 100% different tire from the previous MTR.
