1997 ABS question

Maybe someone can answer this before my shop manuals arrive.

1997 F150 XLT 2WD
I was replacing the inner and outer tie rod ends on the passenger side front today and noticed there was no ABS sensor.
I can see the hole it goes in, the toothed wheel is there.
When I start the truck the ABS light comes on.

Question 1: did all 1997 F150 XLT 2wd come with ABS?
Question 2: If my truck came with ABS and I'm missing the sensors - any ideas on what parts I'll need to get the ABS back in working condition.

Why was I replacing the tie rod ends - The inner was totally shot. Any movement of the unloaded wheel you could watch the inner move. The outer was borderline. Not to expensive to replace and get rid of my wanders.

Pretty sure the 97 2wd only came with rear wheel ABS. I know mine only came with RwABS.

Thats just crazy talk. Only the rear wheels controlled by ABS?

My manuals still aren't here (they shipped on Monday). Is there a Ford mechanic that works at a dealership that can answer?

I just can't figure out why you would only put ABS on the rear wheels.

Believe it - RWABS only. Very common - the lightly-loaded, front-heavy, forward weight transfer nature of an empty pickup....

However - it was an option ( yer manual also shows a 4WABS module fuse at location #25). The two systems are described on page 91.

You'd be getting a specific ABS Warning light on the dash (and a stored code) if yer sensor fell off, hmm?

One sensor on yours - on top of the diff pumpkin.

Yea, I thought about it for a long while and it sorta makes sense because of the weight transfer and the fact the rear would lock up long before the front.
No ABS codes so its all good.

Thanks again - my shop manuals showed up yesterday!

4WABS was an option for 97.

My 97 XLT had RABS-only.
