Going back to stock tires...

In an effort to rediscover some lost torque and gas mileage I'm taking my 33x12.50x17 Cooper Discoverer STTs off and replacing them with a set of 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires. Anyone else gone back to stock lately? Was it a noticeable increase in power or gas mileage? I picked these tires up for a steal ($100) so I'm not out much if it doesn't help. If these work out, then I will most likely switch to a Goodyear Wrangler AT/S that comes factory on the F250s down the road. I am also getting ready to order a Diablo Predator to hopefully pick up a little extra towing oomph...

I'm guessing with my current tires, the weight is a bigger issue than the height since I think the 265/70/17 is between 31 and 32 inches tall, and the M/Ts are only 33 inches. Anyone want to confirm that for me?

4 tires in good condition for $100, that is a good deal.

The diameter of the tires will have a larger effect than the weight of the tires, you just get a compounded effect.

Yep, your current tires are almost 33 inches tall and your OEM tires are almost 32 inches tall. I doubt you notice a difference.

i've had 265's, couple different kinds of 305's and now 2 different sets of 285s...i've switched back and forth to my stock rims more than a few times. the only thing i ever noticed going to a smaller tire was less noise and marginally better mpg. i can't imagine you'll notice any difference at all on stock wheels...

the look of a bigger/wider tire is worth the small loss in gas mileage. to me at least..

I notice the littlest improvements in performance with my vehicles. To justify the cost of new tires..your not gonna gain much. I would just keep those 100 dollar tires..how much tread do you have?

It was to me too for the longest, but now they are just noisy and not doing anything for me anymore. I have run them on every truck I've had up to this point, but with me using this truck strictly for towing trailers on the weekends it is pointless to keep them on there when the truck never sees more than a dirt road. My mileage when towing sucks - roughly 200 miles to a tank. So I'm going to start with the tires (and maybe gain 1/2 mpg - 1 mpg back) and then order a programmer.

I'm not sure yet - I am supposed to get them today. The guy says they don't have many miles on them.

I love them, but I just don't need them anymore - this is my 3rd or 4th set of them between this truck and my previous truck. I get 40k-50k out of a set pretty consistently. I haven't kept this set rotated as regularly as I should and my front end is way out of alignment so these have developed the typical M/T roar at highway speeds.
