powder coat over chrome??
powder coat over chrome??
I was wondering if this is possible? Also, does anyone have a stone colored truck and running black wheels? I really want to powder coat my wheels and run black wheels, but I am iffy on how it would look on my 2-tone stone colored truck...
Well hey now, yes, it's possible.
I had my chrome bumpers sandblasted, and powder coated, with kind of a satin black finish.
It came out fantastic. Going on 3 years old, and almost zero chips. Even where I caught some nasty rocks, it didn't chip, per say... but rather, just kind of smashed back, leaving a tiny, brighter spot, which was easily touched up.
On the other hand, my Satin Black powder coat has gotten kind of an extra flat / dark grayish look to it now, and sometimes streaks where water has run down over it. The only way I can turn it all black, and uniform again, is to put a good coat of wax on it. So now, I'm kind of stuck into waxing the bumpers every time I wash the truck
Still looks pretty good though.

I think if I ever have the truck repainted, I would not pwder coat the bumpers again though. But rather, I'd just have the bumpers, and maybe the rock panels too, done in bedliner.
Peace,
Fish
