It is time to replace the stock BFG Rugged Trail A/Ts on my '08 Screw 4x4. I have an AS 2.5" level, Leer cap, Rancho 9000 XLs, and Firestone bags. I also run a TrueTrac rear end. Right now I love the way the truck rides on the highway, but these tires leave quite a bit to be desired in snow and on unimproved roads, and off road. I am looking at 33 in. tires, something with decent road manners, and which are relatively quiet. The tires I have been primarily concentrating on are: Goodyear Silent Armors, Nitto Terra Grapplers, General Grabber 2. I am not married to any of these, it's just that these seem to get pretty consistantly high marks in the user ratings. The one big concern I have is that almost all 33 in. tires are E rated and I am afraid this may induce some ride harshness. I am aware that tires can be aired down some, but how much and does this really mitigate that much ride harshness? All opinions are welcome

E rated tires can't be aired down too much and from what I have been told on here they shyould not be run any less than 40 psi. If you are looking for a good all around tire that can do everything pretty good the BF Goodrich All Terrain KO is a awesome tire, and if you aren't looking for something super wide the 275/70/18 (33.2") can be found for about $175 a tire right now on tire rack.

with the ones you posted id take the silent armours as they are leaps and bounds ahead of the nitto's in everything.

they are a REALLY good tire the silent armours. Expensive but well worth it.

I have the silent armor's, fantastic tire all around. I can't comment on mud use, but snow.......fantastic, rain the same and they seem to wear well. I keep em at 40 psi and they wear nice at that. Funny thing I tell people is that I drive faster in the snow because of them, they do that well, ice, well, anything short of studded winter tires will fair ho hum! I do say similar about BFG'S and Michelin LTX M/S. I myself am going to try Nitto next, a) for size and b) price.

 

Do you have the E series or the P metrics. I'm interested in your experiences as I live only a few miles away(West Bloomfield) and I duck hunt in Mitchell's Bay and at Wallpole Indian Reservation practically every weekend. So you know the kind of conditions we have in S.E. Michigan and Ontario.

 

I just purchased these from our local Walmart. I had to order them online because its a tire they dont have on the floor. To me it rides really good and I have them infalted to 35psi. I got them for 169.00 each with free mounting. They are the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT275/70R17's. They are "C" rated at 2600lbs. and 5 plys.

I have the E rated. You need good tires for snow, your governor is getting stingey with the plowing and salting of your freeways I really like them a lot, pricey but a very nice tire, looks too!

X3 on BFG AT KO nittos are junk! Everyone that I know that has had them says they wear really fast.

 

BfGs are great tires, had the pre KOs on my F150. Firestone Ats, are a good tire at a great price, ran them on Exped, before the Kellys. Only con is they are little more street oriented, but great in rain, snow,ice, and light off road. Currently running Kelly safari TSRs, and love them. Little louder than the BFG Ats, but have performed great in rain sleet, snow and Ice. Been around father in laws farm, on fied paths with no issues, definitely can tell they are moving some serious dirt. Prices on Kellys are pretty good compared to their sister tire the Wrangler Dura Trac. Only thing I can't rate is tread wear, which is nill at 3000 miles. I will be towing a 6500 lb trailer about 250 miles tomorrow, so we will se how they tow.
Not sure about E range tires, but I am currently running my D range at 36 front, 42 rear. This is after discussions with Kelly customer support.

 

BFG A/T's all the way. I run them on my factory 20's, spendy, but well worth it.

 

I have bridgestone Revo II's. They are not as aggressive as the other but a great AT tire.
