Offset question
Offset question
I am looking at getting 18" XD Monsters and 285/65-18 trail grapplers for my 2010 F150 (4WD). I am not quite understanding the whole offsetting thing and as I see it with those rims I have 3 options..-12, +18 or +35. Does anyone here know how to explain that. I really dont want the tire to stick to far out from the fender. I actually am trying to keep it as near stock looking as possible. I will be putting on a Daystar 2" leveling kit and perhaps a 3" ReadyLift Block replacement in the back.
One more thing I have been trying to figure out is the TPMS sensors. I was told that in 2010 they changed them to just the stems. THe straps or bands on the 2009 are no longer used on the 2010. Can anyone confirm?
Any opinions or suggestions on my future wheel/tire setup is greatly welcomed. I have seen some of your pictures of some very cool leveled trucks and am itching to do that to mine. Just want to make sure Im doing it right.

first off you need to know how wide the wheel is?
the simplest way to put it is: if you have a 8" wide wheel with +0 offset, that means the mounting hub is at center= 4" of back spacing!
now if you have +12 that means the hub is 12 mm outward (like a front wheel drive car),
if you have -12 that means the hub is 12mm inward (deaper dish)
so if you have a 10" wide wheel with +25 offset it will look tucked under the truck too much! IMO
if you have a 10" wide wheel with a -25 offset it will stick out with only about 4" of backspace (Deep dish)
hope you can make sense of this!!
Oh one question! if you want it to look stock, why change it?

Thanks for the info Dan. I guess when I say I want it to look stock, I just mean I dont want the wheel to stick too far out. I live in CA and I dont think its legal to have a tire sticking more than an inch out past the wheel well. I could be wrong, just trying to stay "normal" looking. The rim is 18x9 and my options for the rim will be either -12, +18 or +35 offset with a 5.71 backspace. I think I will be fine with either the +18 or +35. What do you guys think?
Derrick, thank you for that link. It is helpful.

I can see your delema! I guess it depends on what plans you have in the future for your truck! if you only plan on doing a leveling kit I would probably do the +18, this should giv you about a 6" backspace and 3" dish, it should fill it out nicely! but remember the higher you go the more they need to stick out just to look correct!, the +35 would be almost exactly like stock and with a leveling kit it would look too tucked under! and the -12 might stick out more than you want! IMO
good luck with making your decision thats the hardest part for me!

Thanks guys, this is exactly why I love this forum. Great information. I think the +18 is the way for me! Ill make sure to post pics once everything is installed.

Here are some pics for you. This is the 18"x9" XD Monster @ +18mm offset with 295/70 - 18 Trail Grapplers.
The angle of the pic is the straightest that I could get, the tires just stick out past the fender flares.

Thanks for posting those pictures. Man, your truck just keeps looking better and better. I saw your other pics on another thread. Very cool setup. I just ordered from RimzOnline and got a great deal...and went with the +18 offset.
