Tire+Wheels for XMas
Tire+Wheels for XMas
Right now my truck has OEM 20" Wheels with the pirellis on it. I would like to get some wider tires in the rear. If I was to keep the OEM 20s and pirellis up front, would it be ok to get 32" tall tires for the rear? Also, would it be possible to widen the stock rims? I dont want to have mismatched rims if I do not have to. What would something like that cost? Another thing is what is the widest tire I could have on the OEM Wheels be? I was hoping to gain as much tread as I could on each side.
That is a popular look among older muscle cars but I wouldn't do it on your truck. It will be more trouble than it's worth because you can't rotate your tires properly. By keeping the OEM wheels, it wouldn't be possible to use two sizes that were different enough to be really noticable. If you widen the OEM wheels out back, you are gonna run into serious expense (I'm just guessing on this). Personally, I think it would be more cost effective and look much better to just add aftermarket wheels and tires. I'd go with a wide tire all the way around like a 305/50-20 (if you keep the OEM wheels) or go with a 305mm wide tire on aftermarket 22's or 24's.
You could trade your 20" rims for some 17" and buy bfg all-terrain tires front 235/80/17 and rear 305/65/17. The back would be about .6" taller and about 3" wider. Here look at this

Thanks for the comments, but I was thinking about getting a wider tire than a 305mm. I may head over to a local F150/Mustang specialty place on monday. I was looking for more along the lines of 14 or 15" wide tires for the rear, and I know the stock rims won't hold that. I am not so much going for the look as much as going for the performance aspect of it. Right now I have 3.55 gears and 275mm wide tires, and I can still spin them all the way though first gear if I really want to(That is when I am in a straight line too). I want to go to 4.10s or 4.30s, so when I do that, the tires will really be lighting up, even when I am not trying to do so. I figured if I started out with wider tires first, it wouldn't spin now or later. Also, I know that I can not rotate them, thats not really a problem.
How about getting some type of drag radial or cheater slick? You could always change the suspension up to make it hook better. The are alot of high horsepower cars running very low ET on a 9" wide tire.
