Best thing to use on Factory Chrome Clad wheels?
Hi I am just wondering what the best thing to clean/polish the 18" chrome clad wheels on a 2008 would be? I have just been using turtle wax chrome polish, but I am noticing very small specks or pits. Any way to prevent this?
Soap and water to clean, windex or glass cleaners to get rid of water spots for spotless shine. I've just used off the shelf wheel polishes to polish, but I'm betting the pits are brake pad related. A good rim cleaner and scrubbing work well there and to prevent?, new better brake pads! Hope it helps, I've done this on my neighbor's 08 and it worked well. She NEVER cleans the rims and they were a browney color throughout. Figure probably a year of built up brake dust was 98-99% eliminated by me.
Blue has it. Best thing to keep the wheels clean would be good old soap and water. Keeping them waxed will help protect them but brake dust is the #1 reason for wheels to pit and once that happens its pretty much over.
Threat them like any other painted surface that you love. I respectfully disagree with BLUE on the glass cleaner bit though...you'd never use that on paint, so don't use it on your wheels. Glass cleaner will strip any wax or other treatment you've applied. May look shiny initially, but not good. There's too many quick detailers out there intended for the touch up maintenance duties like this. They're lubricated for this type of duty and won't strip anything on your surface. Mothers Showtime Instant Detailer is my personal favorite, but any name brand quick detailer will handle the task. Glass cleaner has one purpose...glass.
Warm car soap and water, Mother's liquid chrome polish, detail/touch-up with liquid Stoner's Invisible Glass. The Invisible Glass will not strip the chrome polish and it will really make the rims pop...
