Tires and Level

I drive an 04 F150 2wd. I am planning on leveling it and putting on bigger tires. i want to put on 285/70R17. how much do i need to lift the front for these to work, and are there going to be any problems with rubbing?

You will be fine with a 2.5" leveling kit up front on stock wheels with 285/70/17 and zero rubbing.

I would go with the the Truxxx Kit. Tire Rack carries it for $171 and works on the coil over front shocks, or what I did and like a lot is to go with the Bilstein HD 5100 shocks and they have an adjustable spring seat for height adjustment. Bilsteins are more money but you are getting more. They run $145 each. I had 70,000 miles on my stock shocks and they were way over due. What a difference. Here is the links for both.

On a 4x2 I would maybe go with a 2" leveling kit. The 285x70's will look great after leveling and should not rub.

does anybody have any thoughts on adding a block in the rear? I have heard that it makes the ride rougher, but is it something that i need?

No, blocks do not affect the ride quality at all. Adding leafs would be the only thing that would affect the ride.

It's up to you. If the 2.5" level makes your truck nose high, I'd add OEM 1 5/8" blocks in the back. It's all about the look you want; Nose in the air, perfectly level, or factory raked look. I think the factory rake looks the best (hell, I'm 2wd, with blocks in the back - extreme rake) and you won't look pathetic when towing or hauling.
