Angry Stupid Squeaking....

I know, I know! There's a million posts about squeaking, but I would like to share my experience with it to see what replies I get...

So I've been dealing with this awful squeaking for about a month now. I took it to our mechanic, and after taking the wheel off and inspecting everything, he said that all it needed was a good wash. So I washed it. It stopped for the day, came back the next. It doesn't do first thing in the morning until I drive it for a while. Mainly from 0-20 mph going and stopping it's the loudest. My husband has also done the same thing twice since then, and has came up with nothing. When he took the wheel off, he tried to manually turn it and it didn't squeak. He has tried PB Blaster and it didn't help. I can't keep paying someone to take the wheels off to tell me there's nothing wrong, so if anyone has any insight, please share with me. It's really annoying and I just don't know what else to do. Thanks for your help!

We are dealing with a 2000 Ford F150 4x4

Could just be the quality of the pads material. I find that a low cost pad will squeak and make noise more often then a higher quality pad. Just the material.

What type of pads do you have? Does it do it only when the brakes are applied or all the time from 0-20 (accelerating and braking)? Do you drive on any dusty roads? How many miles are on the pads?

If you drive dusty roads...sorry, get used to it as there is not much that can be done and is normal with dust in between the rotors/pads.

If it does it more at slower braking speeds you might have some glazing on the pads. The squeel stop will work for awhile but eventually come back. You need to do some hard braking to heat the pads up and remove the glazing from the rotors which will help with the squeeling. 35-40MPH to 0 a few times should help the problem and lessen the noise.

thanks for the responses!*
yes, they do squeak when applied lightly. it doesn't do it first thing in the morning but starts right when i get to work. when it does, it does it from take-off to about 20mph going and stopping. it squeaks faster with acceleration and slower when braking. you would know how fast i was taking off and slowing down. guess it does sounds like the brakes huh? thanks guys i will try to purchase some better pads and rotors and give you an update.

Are you sure its coming from the front/brakes? Could it be a U-joint?

Another thing to consider is coating the half shaft boots, the rubber there dries and often does this. Silicone spray will fix this, if not it's still good to do. The only other thing I know of is there is not enough anti-seize or anti-squeel on the backs of the pads. This fixes a squeel under braking though, so try the rubber boots first.

My bet is that the back of your brake pads need brake caliper grease.

lol, good one jgger Maybe check the turn signal fluid as well No... I understand what he is talking about. The little tube of grease that comes with the brake pads. That could cause it to squeak for sure. I have also had a piece of rust get caught between the pad and rotor before that caused a squeaking. All was clean when I put it together but after handling the caliper and loosening things up, some how some rust chips got between there and it started squeaking. Took it apart, cleaned it up and problem solved.
